Γνωρίζεται ότι την Τετάρτη 13 Μαρτίου 2024 και πρωινές ώρες στον Κόλπο του Άντεν, η Φρεγάτα ΥΔΡΑ στο πλαίσιο της επιχείρησης της EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, παρέχοντας προστασία σε εμπορικό πλοίο, έβαλε με πυροβόλο εναντίον 2 Μη Επανδρωμένων Αεροχημάτων (UAVs), σύμφωνα με τους ισχύοντες Κανόνες Εμπλοκής, τα οποία απομακρύνθηκαν. Η Φρεγάτα συνεχίζει κανονικά την αποστολή της.
EUNAVFOR ASPIDES WARSHIP IT DUILIO REPELLS UAVs ATTACK
On 12 March 2024, between 02:00 a.m. and 05:45 a.m. (Djibouti time), an EUNAVFOR ASPIDES warship (Italian Destroyer CAIO DUILIO) repelled an attack from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) coming from Houthis controlled-territories in Yemen and posing a direct and imminent threat to the freedom of navigation. The action performed by ITS DUILIO was effective in avoiding any damage to seafarers and merchant shipping.
EUNAVFOR ASPIDES has a defensive mandate, to protect shipping targeted by attacks at sea or air. Any response will always come as a consequence of an attack and be necessary, proportionate and limited to international sea or air-space.
