ΕΠΙΧΕΙΡΗΣΗ EUNAVFOR ASPIDES
Update on MV ETERNITY (July 11, 2025)
According to our information, the Search and Rescue operation performed by the private company in the area of the attack is ongoing.
Currently, according to the information provided by the private company, the following people have been recovered from the sea:
* Eight (8) castaway crew members (All Filipinos).
* Two (2) Members of the security team (1 Greek, 1 Indian).Fifteen (15) crew members are missing. The 4 presumed casualties are among the missing crew members.
All nearby vessels are advised to have a sharp look out, provide assistance to any castaway from MV ETERNITY-C and contact immediately with local Rescue Coordination Centers (RCCs), flag state Rescue Coordination Center (RCCs) and Pakistan Rescue Coordination Center (PRCC).
Στις 7 Ιουλίου 2025 και ώρα 16:30 UTC, το υπό Λιβεριανή σημαία εμπορικό πλοίο MV ETERNITY C, ελληνικών συμφερόντων, ιδιοκτησίας της εταιρείας, δέχθηκε επίθεση από δυνάμεις των Χούθι σε απόσταση περίπου 50 ναυτικών μιλίων νοτιοδυτικά του λιμένα Al Hudaydah (Χοντέιντα) της Υεμένης.
Η επίθεση εκδηλώθηκε από τέσσερα (4) ταχύπλοα σκάφη με ενόπλους, τα οποία εξαπέλυσαν τουλάχιστον τέσσερις (4) αντιαρματικές ρουκέτες τύπου RPG, καθώς και από δύο (2) μη επανδρωμένα αεροχήματα (UAVs).
Κατά συνέπεια των επιθέσεων, το MV ETERNITY C βρίσκεται σε κατάσταση ακυβερνησίας.
Δύο (2) μέλη του πληρώματος αγνοούνται και δύο (2) έχουν τραυματιστεί. Το πλήρωμα αποτελείται συνολικά από είκοσι δύο (22) άτομα, εκ των οποίων είκοσι ένας (21) είναι υπήκοοι Φιλιππίνων και ένας (1) υπήκοος Ρωσίας. Επίσης, επί του πλοίου επέβαιναν τρία (3) μέλη της ομάδας ένοπλης ασφάλειας.
Σημειώνεται ότι το εν λόγω εμπορικό πλοίο δεν είχε αιτηθεί συνοδεία ή παροχή προστασίας από την Επιχείρηση EUNAVFOR ASPIDES. Κατά τον χρόνο του περιστατικού, ουδέν πολεμικό πλοίο της Επιχείρησης βρισκόταν σε εγγύτητα με το συμβάν.
Επισημαίνεται ότι πρόκειται για τη δεύτερη επίθεση εναντίον εμπορικού πλοίου στην Ερυθρά Θάλασσα από τον Νοέμβριο του 2024, με δράστες τις δυνάμεις των Χούθι.

EUNAVFOR ASPIDES Informational Message to the Shipping Industry

Despite last Houthi attacks in the Red Sea and Israel attacks on Houthis controlled ports,
threat to the maritime environment has now changed.
The assessment is now CRITICAL for vessels in connection with Israel, transiting
through Red Sea, Strait of Bab El Mandeb and Gulf of Aden.
The assessment remains MODERATE for vessels in connection with US, transiting
through Red Sea, Strait of Bab El Mandeb and Gulf of Aden.
The assessment remains LOW for vessels with no connection to US or Israel transiting
through Red Sea, Strait of Bab El Mandeb and Gulf of Aden.
However, this does not exclude the possibility of merchant vessels being targeted in the
future.
In order to avoid any collateral damages, we recommend all vessels to avoid entering
Yemeni territorial waters. We further recommend to sail closer to African coast and
follow other official guidance, recommendations and best practices.
A solid risk assessment needs to be conducted to sail in this High Threat Area. Especially,
consider connections of companies and vessels to countries of interest.
ASPIDES is continuing to support Freedom of Navigation for the maritime community as
a maritime security provider by offering Close Protection and Monitoring services to pass
the Red Sea, Bab El Mandeb strait and Gulf of Aden area.
ASPIDES monitors continuously the evolution of the threat and its potential impact on
maritime security. The operation remains committed to its defensive mission and offers
free support in the area.
We further remind all vessel masters that the MSCIO remains available as a point of
contact for any occurrences they may deem unusual. These information help to ensure
the safety of seafarers and to safeguard the freedom of navigation with the continued
support of Operation ASPIDES.
So, for the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, please follow the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES

Κατόπιν πρόσφατων δημοσιευμάτων και αναφορών από μέσα ενημέρωσης, η Επιχείρηση «EUNAVOR ASPIDES» διευκρινίζει ρητά και κατηγορηματικά ότι ουδέποτε έχει εκδώσει συστάσεις «σε όλα τα πλοία να μην περνούν από την Ερυθρά Θάλασσα και να κάνουν το γύρο της Αφρικής, καθώς πλέον βρίσκεται σε εμπόλεμη ζώνη η περιοχή», όπως εσφαλμένα έχει αναφερθεί σε ορισμένα μέσα.
Η επιχείρηση EUNAVOR ASPIDES συνεχίζει να επιχειρεί στην περιοχή με στόχο τη συμβολή στην ασφαλή ναυσιπλοΐα και την προστασία των εμπορικών πλοίων που διέρχονται από αυτή, σύμφωνα με το Διεθνές Δίκαιο και τις αποφάσεις των αρμόδιων ευρωπαϊκών και διεθνών θεσμών.
Update on MV ETERNITY (July 10th, 2025)
Early in the morning on July 9, a search and rescue operation began by a private company, in the area of the attack.
Currently, the following people have been recovered from the sea:
• Eight (8) castaway crew members (All Filipinos).
• Two (2) Members of the security team (1 Greek, 1 Indian).
Fifteen (15) crew members are missing.
The crew of MV ETERNITY C consists of 22 members (21 Filipinos, 1 Russian) and a 3-member security team.
Operation ASPIDES continuous to participate in the coordination of the international response, by involving and synchronizing all willing actors in the area.
