ΟΙ ΕΥΡΩΒΟΥΛΕΥΤΡΙΕΣ ΥΠΟΣΤΗΡΙΖΟΥΝ ΤΗΝ ΕΠΙΤΡΟΠΗ ΤΟΥ ΟΗΕ ΓΙΑ ΤΗ ΘΕΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΓΥΝΑΙΚΑΣ

Από τις 17 έως τις 20 Μαρτίου, αντιπροσωπεία της επιτροπής Δικαιωμάτων των Γυναικών και Ισότητας των Φύλων (FEMM) συμμετείχε στη Νέα Υόρκη στην 69^η σύνοδο της επιτροπής του ΟΗΕ για τη Θέση της Γυναίκας (CSW).

Η συνεδρίαση της 69^ης επιτροπής του ΟΗΕ για τη Θέση της Γυναίκας (CSW69) επικεντρώθηκε στην ανασκόπηση της εφαρμογής της Διακήρυξης του Πεκίνου και της Πλατφόρμας Δράσης και των αποτελεσμάτων της 23ης ειδικής συνόδου της Γενικής Συνέλευσης.

Στις 18 Μαρτίου, οι ευρωβουλευτές φιλοξένησαν, διαδικτυακά και δια ζώσης, παράλληλη εκδήλωση για την καταπολέμηση της βίας λόγω φύλου, και τη δημιουργία ευκαιριών και την αντιμετώπιση των προκλήσεων που συνεπάγεται η προώθηση των γυναικών σε ηγετικές θέσεις.

Οι ευρωβουλεύτριες, μεταξύ αυτών και η Ελεονώρα ΜΕΛΕΤΗ ΕΛΚ), είχαν ένα πλήρες πρόγραμμα συναντήσεων με φορείς της CSW69, οργανώσεις της κοινωνίας των πολιτών και εκπροσώπους της κυβέρνησης.

From 17 to 20 March, a delegation from the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee attended the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

This week MEPs attended the 69th UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) in New York. The meeting focused on reviewing implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly.

On 18 March, MEPs hosted a side event on fighting gender-based violence, both offline and online, and on creating opportunities for and addressing the challenges inherent in advancing women in leadership positions. The event can be viewed here.

MEPs had a full programme of meetings with CSW69 actors, civil society organisations, and government representatives.

Backgroung

In preparation for the CSW69, Parliament adopted a recommendation in December in which MEPs called for targeted measures to address women’s human rights and gender equality. These included gender-responsive budgeting and measures to increase women’s representation in leadership roles, whether in politics, business, or security and defence. It called for action to step up the fight against gender violence online and offline, for safe and accessible women’s health care, and for women to be included in peace-building processes and negotiations.
